There could be exceptions (if you have it under melee overwatch and whatever else), but overall - concentrate fire as long as you can. Remember, as long as unit has 1hp - it is as dangerous as one in full health. If enemy is hunkered down - made a semi-suicide charge with a grenade unit but your rest army would get a way better shot at it. Do not neglect cover, and keep in mind enemies move range and cover-destroying abilities (you'll get used to them while you are watching over your fights). If it is a combat drone - it could be taken down by enemies in one volley of concentrated fire and it won't be able to do a thing - except playing role of bullet magnet (which COULD be useful, but you better grab your basics for now). It could live shorter, than if you do that in the middle of the combat but if this is a healing drone support mod, it could prepare your (pre)damaged army. The first round of combat, if you have some mod that summon unit - do not neglect it. Be aware that it could be done to you as well. Use anything that can provide stagger to deny enemies their most powerful abilities that require 3 Action Points to activate. Give all your army +2 resistance when in cover (Dvar racial) is way better, than extra +5% crit chance for your hero. Do not neglect raising heroes as party-wide buff specialists. ![]() Do not be shy of using any sort of superiority - if you can't win 6-by-6 combat, grab a couple more of units At some point even marauders start getting modules, and that could be a spike in difficulty. ![]() First battles could be challenging, but as you would be getting more tactical operations (healing, nuking enemies, whatever), it would become easier. And the best recipe is practice and practice. You can watch auto-combat replay, it could give you some ideas to try on your own.
